Events & Food Drives:
Walk and Knock
The Inter-Service Walk and Knock Food Drive is held annually on the first Saturday in December. 2009 will mark the 25th anniversary of this event and the drive will occur on the 5th.
While the last two years were very successful, in 2008 collecting 141 tons of food and 43 thousand dollars (20% more food than in 2006 with 21% fewer volunteers), Walk and Knock has experienced a significant drop in the number of drive day volunteers. Inevitably, when there aren't enough volunteers to knock on doors some households do get missed. Greater numbers of volunteers translates into a far more efficient and successful campaign. Please consider offering your time to help alleviate hunger in Clark County.
Volunteer opportunities:
- Walkers: Go door to door to solicit food and cash donations.
- Drivers: Transport walkers as well as collected food.
- Packers: Box collected food at the central sites.
Are you interested in a more in depth and on-going level of involvement? Volunteer to assist (or be) a Sector Coordinator or Area Captain. Walk and Knock is operated entirely by volunteers with no paid staff but just like any business must be concerned with succession planning. These positions are essential in terms of the coordination of volunteers leading up to as well as on drive day. It is very important to have experienced, motivated individuals available to step in and take charge, if and when the need arises.
Please follow this link www.walkandknock.org to learn more about the organization as well as volunteer your time or services. You can also donate money on this site, 100% of which goes toward the purchase of food for distribution to the hungry in our community.
