VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: FOOD BANK FRESH
Cold, rainy weather didn’t deter the Food Bank Fresh/School Pantry team on Thursday, November 30th. They bundled up and distributed food to families at Jason Lee Elementary School in Hazel Dell
“People need food whether it’s cold outside or not!” says longtime volunteer Cat Arnes, Market Manager for Food Bank Fresh and School Pantries.
Food Bank Fresh is Clark County Food Bank’s small-scale, farmers-market-style food distribution program that is held in the summer months. This mobile program is hosted at various sites around Clark County in order to distribute fresh produce and shelf-stable foods to neighbors in our community.
During the school months, the program transitions over to School Pantries, distributing food in the same manner at Vancouver and Evergreen Public Schools to students and their families. Whether driving the truck to the site, helping set up, check-in clients, refresh supplies, distribute produce, or tearing it down at the end of the day, volunteers come together, multiple days every week, to get food to those who need it in Clark County.
The Food Bank Fresh/School Pantry volunteer team perseveres, despite challenging Northwest weather conditions like wind, rain, and snow in the winter and high temperatures in the summer.
