VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT:
DAVE AND SUSAN LAUDERDALE
For a glimpse of community in action, spend a Tuesday afternoon with Dave and Susan Lauderdale. As longtime volunteers at Clark County Food Bank (CCFB), they have become a vital part of daily operations, ensuring food reaches those in need with dignity and care.
Dave, who volunteers at Community Kitchen Fruit Valley, recalls what drew them to the organization. “We recently decided to give one afternoon a week to the Food Pantry,” he said. “We were both impacted by how the process allows for kindness, dignity, and providing food.” Over time, their involvement deepened their awareness of food insecurity in Clark County. “The need became even more real to us, and we were even more thankful we could be part of the process,” he added.
Though deeply committed to the cause, the the Lauderdales also find joy in their work. Susan recalls a particularly memorable moment during a shift. “One day, I picked up a watermelon and it exploded all over my shoes and the floor,” she said. “The smell and mess it made will forever live in my memory—and had the whole room laughing.”
Volunteers like the the Lauderdales play a crucial role in CCFB’s mission. In 2024 alone, 4,625 volunteers contributed 67,502 hours of service across 116 groups. Their efforts ensure the food bank continues to meet the needs of the community—not for recognition, but simply because they saw a need and stepped in to help.
CCFB strives to connect volunteers with opportunities that match their passions while meeting community needs. Whether you’re interested in Farm, Food, Nutrition Education, Home Delivery, SNAP Application Assistance, or other areas, there’s a place for you.
