Home Delivery Celebrates 5 Years
Monday through Friday, volunteers with Clark County Food Bank load up their cars and head out across Clark County. Their destination isn't a pantry or distribution site. It's a front door.
Five ears ago, the Home Delivery program launched during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when many seniors and neighbors with underlying health conditions were suddenly cut off from reliable food access. What began as an emergency response has since become a lifeline for community members who are homebound, either temporarily or long-term.
Over the years, the program has delivered more than food. It has built relationships. Home Delivery volunteers Jim and Jana Ficker, have spent years getting to know their neighbors on their route, including Josie, a 96-year-old resident at Wisteria Manor.
“We have become close friends and always save her for our last stop,” they shared. “Josie’s friendship has become our reward.”
The impact of Home Delivery continues to reach far beyond the doorstep. “In the time we have been delivering, we feel strongly that this program is having a huge impact on seniors and homebound individuals. We love it so much and our motto is: EVERYBODY EATS ON THURSDAYS!”
As Home Delivery celebrates five years, the program continues to ensure that neighbors across Clark County can access not only food, but also the care, connection, and support that help communities thrive.
